"It's the way he dreams, the way he looks at things."

*** THIS REVIEW MIGHT CONTAIN SPOILERS ***
I watched this film without prior knowledge of what it was about.
(You should too. It makes the viewing much more leveled and interesting.)

We accompany designer Dries Van Noten as he prepares men and women's collections for the hectic Paris Fashion Week. An intimate look into his creative process, life, and aspirations as an independent designer in the changing world of fashion.

If you are not already aware, I have a thing for fashion documentaries - especially the good ones. And as matter of fact, Dries (2017) is a prime example of a good one. And to be frank, it is my favorite out of everything I have watched so far.

Most start their narrative with the history, that from the bottom to the top story. But with Dries, it felt different. It was intimate, too intimate in a way for we see beyond the creative process but also his personal space as well. But at the same time, it's not as if we are barging in - there is still a line we are to not cross.

What really fascinated me, apart from his very smart and highly organized creative process, is his love for his garden. As one who likes gardening, it gives me great joy to see other people's gardening habits.

I didn't feel the need to ask more, for in a way we are already given access to what goes behind it all. The pacing is just right, and it doesn't do outrageous things to further reiterated its narrative. It was just the right mix of intimacy, stunning shots, clothes, and the right amount of words.

Highs

  • Intimate.
  • Visually stunning.
  • Straight to the point narrative.

Lows

  • None. I really loved it!

It does not rely on drama or words from a celebrity like any other fashion documentary does, it's all about the work, the story, and the drive. A right kind of intimate that made Dries a great documentary. I loved it! Would definitely recommend.

Hello! My name is Caroline and I own this blog!

I like watching things, and I love talking about them. In order to bring back life to my slowly dying blog, I have decided to post reviews of the things I have watched here in this place. Not to mention my low-key obsession with taking screen captures. I used to do little thread reviews on my twitter, which I still do to this date. I also have a dedicated Tumblr where I dump most of my screen caps.

It would be nice to know what you think of the thing I watched in this post as well. Or if you have any suggestions on what should I watch next, comment below or reach me thru twitter. You can also ask questions on my curious cat profile!

Thank you for taking the time and reading this review. It really means a lot to me. ( ∩ˇωˇ∩)♡
