"The thing to do is not to take yourself seriously, otherwise, you're finished."

*** THIS REVIEW MIGHT CONTAIN SPOILERS ***
I watched this film without prior knowledge of what it was about.
(You should too. It makes the viewing much more leveled and interesting.)

Manolo: The Boy Who Made Shoes for Lizards is a look on the famous shoe designer's life, his creative process, and his well-known admirers.

I honestly was excited to check this one out for the reason that I like Manolo Blahnik, more specifically his shoes. I've wished to own a pair since I saw Carrie Bradshaw's wedding shoes in Sex and the City. I actually got to try them out when I was in New York (but I didn't buy, of course! Because I'm broke and I could only dream.), and wearing a pair like them was such a divine experience.

So the fact that I'll know about the man responsible for such pretty shoes was something I was thrilled for! But with a few minutes in, it was fun and pretty - but I was somehow lost. Like it felt scattered and don't know what it wants to say. It keeps on showing pretty things, but never really gets to the point where in the end there is no point.

It would've been lovely if they cut back on the other elements, and just somehow focus on the Manolo himself.

Highs

  • Quirky.
  • A look at Manolo Blahnik's creative process.
  • The shoes!

Lows

  • Unnecessary reenactments, animation, and famous people.
  • Not much of a deep dive.
  • Scattered narrative mixed with really off pacing.

The whole thing was undeniably charming for sure, but somehow the supposed portrait felt more like a draft sketch. There really isn't much. It was fun, but not a reason enough for me to recommend this.

Hello! My name is Caroline and I own this blog!

I like watching things, and I love talking about them. In order to bring back life to my slowly dying blog, I have decided to post reviews of the things I have watched here in this place. Not to mention my low-key obsession with taking screen captures. I used to do little thread reviews on my twitter, which I still do to this date. I also have a dedicated Tumblr where I dump most of my screen caps.

It would be nice to know what you think of the thing I watched in this post as well. Or if you have any suggestions on what should I watch next, comment below or reach me thru twitter. You can also ask questions on my curious cat profile!

Thank you for taking the time and reading this review. It really means a lot to me. ( ∩ˇωˇ∩)♡
